A little bit more about my degree

As a third-year Nutrition and Dietetics student at Griffith University, I’m diving deep into the world of nutrition science, clinical dietetics, and public health nutrition— and I’m loving every minute of it! The journey has been nothing short of exciting, filled with hands-on experiences that fuel my passion for making a positive impact on people’s health.

Some of the highlights so far include:

  • Clinical placements where I’ve had the chance to roll up my sleeves and conduct nutritional diagnoses in aged care facilities to develop tailored care plans.

  • Designing community interventions to tackle food insecurity and boost access to healthy, affordable food in rural and remote areas (I’m all about making nutrition accessible for everyone!).

  • Creating educational materials—from recipes to flyers—that cater to diverse audiences, helping people make healthier food choices.

  • Applying socio-ecological frameworks to explore the broader factors affecting health and nutrition, and developing strategies to address them at the community level.

  • Practical experience through case studies and simulated patient interactions that have helped me sharpen my skills in a real-world context.

  • Building communication and counselling skills that not only help me connect with clients but also with multidisciplinary teams in collaborative settings.

  • One on one mentoring with first year students to help them them navigate the challenges of university life and share what I’ve learned along the way.

Every step of this degree has been an opportunity to learn, grow, and develop the skills that will help me stand out in the field of dietetics. I’m excited to continue applying my knowledge and even more excited to graduate in 2025!

Diploma of Business (2018)

In 2018, I completed a Diploma in Business, and little did I know at the time, it would become the stepping stone to my dietetics career. Who would’ve thought that my business diploma would lead me to university and the world of nutrition? One of the highlights was being the project manager for a business launch event, where I got hands-on experience developing a project brief, managing budgets, hiring staff, sourcing entertainment, catering, and even marketing the whole event. I also handled risk assessments, organised meetings, and got all the necessary approvals from officials and local residents.

The diploma equipped me with practical skills in communication, managing resources, and creating policies for sustainability. I also dove into electives like recruitment, business risk management, and continuous improvement. Now, as I dive deeper into Nutrition and Dietetics, these business skills are coming in handy, especially when it comes to managing future projects and maybe even running my own private practice one day.
